The May 21 show is headlined by lead singer Garry Luck, who said the biggest difficulty in putting the concert together was narrowing down the list of songs to fit the show.
‘’Gordon wrote hundreds of songs,’’ Luck said.
‘’We have chosen 16 of his best and are intertwining the songs with narrative and footage of arguably one of Canada’s most famous songwriters.’’
It has been 42 years since Gordon Lightfoot toured Australia. Last year he celebrated 50 years of touring down the Carefree Highway but the reality is, at age 78, he is unlikely to ever tour Australia again.
Lightfoot has written and recorded such timeless classics as If You Could Read My Mind, Rainy Day People, Sundown, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Early Morning Rain to name but a few.
Many of his songs have been covered and made into hits by the likes of Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand, Johnny Cash, Anne Murray, Marty Robbins and Peter, Paul and Mary.
Performing alongside Luck on Saturday is Wollongong songstress and promoter, Claire Roberts, Glen Bowker and Steve Hamann who are often seen performing in the local Charlie Harper Band, and Canberra folk singer Fred Pilcher.
The Sundown-The Gordon Lightfoot Story show on May 21 starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at the door for $15 to $25
