Now this Baird was not just big. It was also scary. It was a very scary Baird.
There was nothing this scary Baird liked more than to fill its belly with juicy, democratically elected local government bodies.
One day the scary Baird came down the hill from the big city looking for trouble. It was going to gobble up Shellytown and Woollyville.
Our hero, Mayorianne, was the leader of Shellytown.
When Mayorianne saw the scary Baird coming down the hill she got scared and cranky. She couldn’t see why the scary Baird would swallow Woollyville and Shellytown, but leave the scary Baird’s favourite little town, Garethlington, intact.
She promised everyone in Shellytown she would fight to stop the scary Baird.
She asked the Warden of Garethlington for help, but he said she had been too cranky and so the whole town would get eaten up.
She asked the Deacon of Woollyville to help, but he didn’t want to poke the Baird.
So Mayorianne went to ask the judge to stop the scary Baird. And because the judge had a big woolly wig, Mayorianne needed a hat to fit in. She didn’t want him to be annoyed like the Warden.
But she didn’t have a hat!
Luckily, at just that moment, a pirate walked by ...
