A renowned sprinter, Law was still prepared to do his share of the work during the four-lap, 102-kilometre race which includes the steep Marshall Mount climb.

The NSWIS team surged late, with Law making the dash to claim race honours, after a keenly contested race involving 196 competitors.

Handicapper Garry Doughty said Law’s ability to contribute to doing the mid-race leg-work was a major factor in the win. 

“They wouldn’t have won if they had not all worked,” he said. “Scott is a terrific rider and the NSWIS riders are very professional, he just had the superior sprinting ability at the finish.

“The NSWIS boys had six of seven left at the end, which is quite remarkable given the way the race panned out. 

“A big factor was Scott not shirking the load during the race. In a lot of races the sprinter would have sat behind them, but he took on his share.”

St George rider Cameron Scott was second, with Alex Gardner fourth.

Scott’s brother Jackson was among the leading pack, finishing fourth, just seconds behind. Neil Arnold was the first Illawarra club entrant across the line in 18^th.

The race is one of NSW road racing’s major and most popular events. 

The Illawarra Cycle Club’s next major event is the interclub race next month.
