The Rotary Clubs of Bulli, Corrimal, Fairy Meadow, Illawarra Sunrise, West Wollongong and Wollongong thanked the organisers of Wings Over Illawarra on Thursday. Mark and Kerry Bright, of Bright Events Management, took over running the airshow two years ago but weather made it difficult until their third attempt. Rotarians wanted to acknowledge their hard work. It was also an opportunity for the Bright’s to make presentations to local charities. Wollongong president Professor Michael Hough described the air show as an outstanding as was the collaboration and support of all the clubs involved. Past president Leigh Robinson said the Brights had committed to and personally presented $10,000 from the proceeds to nominated charities.

Mt Keira Scout Camp will use its $2000 for the upgrade of the public swimming pool facilities. Other recipients were the Rotary Imagination Library project, Aspect South Coast School, the Denny Foundation and the Illawarra Dialysis and Transplant Association.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery thanked all who contributed to the event and resented a Lord Mayor Certificate of Appreciation for Mr and Mrs Bright’s persistence, determination and triumph to stage one of the region’s most successful regional tourism events.
On the Saturday evening Illawarra Sunrise hosted “Swing into Wings” which raised more than $14,000 for the Salvation Army Wollongong 1st Floor Program for families affected by their children’s drug addiction and the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society.
