AN 18-year-old Nowra man was charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest following an incident in Nowra in the early hours of Sunday morning when a police officer had his thumb broken.

Police were called to a Bridge Road hotel in Nowra about 12.15am after a male patron failed to leave the premises.
Police were told the man had allegedly threatened staff with a pole outside the hotel.
When police approached the man he ran away on foot with police giving chase and arresting him in the Egans Lane car park.
Police will allege that the man violently resisted arrest and assaulted a male officer by kicking him.
A male police officer sustained a broken thumb during the arrest.
Police will also allege the man threatened police at Nowra Police Station.
He has been charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, intimidating police and offensive conduct.
He will appear at Nowra Local Court at a later date.
