About 50 budding musical students got the chance to play the instruments as part of a free workshop organised by the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music.
As an added bonus the students from various Illawarra high schools and primary schools also got some expert help and advice from members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra brass and percussion section.
Smiths Hill High School music teacher Kathleen Russo said the students had a great time.
‘’What I found really interesting was how quickly their sound improved in a very short time with a few helpful techniques,’’ Mrs Russo said.
‘’I want to thank the Conservatorium and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for this free workshop.’’
