6.45am: SES NSW and Burau of Meteorology reports this morning are that the East Coast Low off the Illawarra coast responsible for all the wind and rain during the weekend is moving further down the South Coast.
But heavy rain and strong wind winds will still affect areas between Wollongong and the Victorian border on Monday morning.
Overnight, flooding has affected the Woronora and Georges Rivers and there has been significant flash flooding in the Picton and Wollondilly areas where there have been around 50 flood rescues including some from roofs.
Large seas have combined with king tides resulting in significant coastal erosion along the east coast with some properties affected in the Narrabeen and Collaroy areas.
Disruptions are expected at some schools and public transport in Sydney and the Illawarra on Monday morning as the South Coas is expected to remain in the footprint of the severe weather with impacts on the Bega, Moruya and Shoalhaven Rivers and a number of coastal lagoons as the weather system moves south.
Up to 350 millimetres of rain has fallen during the past two days across the Bega River valley and further rainfall is forecast from Wollongong to the Victorian border during the next 12 hours.
The Georges River at Milperra had a peak near the 4.3 metre level causing major flooding overnight.
The Woronora River has now fallen below minor flood level after peaking at 1.6 metres at 9:30 last night and the Woronora Dam is not expected to spill.
At 3.36am NSW SES reported on its Facebook page that the Shoalhaven River at Nowra was peaking around 3.3 metres with moderate flooding downstream of Nowra,
The Shoalhaven River at Terara was peaking around 3.1metres with moderate flooding and low lying areas affected including roads and farmland.
With the tidal conditions, flooding was expected at Shoalhaven Heads in the Bolong Road area as well as Greenwell Point and Culburra-Orient Point.
The SES said Coolendel camping reserve was likely to become isolated.
It said motorists should avoid driving through flood waters, which may have washed away road surfaces and could be deeper or faster-flowing than they look. Farmers should take action to protect pumps, other equipment and livestock.
An average of 208 millimetres of rain has fallen in the lower Shoalhaven River catchment area during the past 48 hours to 3am Monday 6/6/2016, with up to 373 millimetres falling in the Kangaroo Valley.
