Last week Racing.com, which is available on Seven West Media's channel 78, broadcast the Hong Kong races for the first time under its new deal with the gold-plated racing jurisdiction.

The whole point of the Hong Kong Jockey Club signing with Racing.com was to get a bigger audience for its world-leading race product and reap the bounty via its local betting partner, David Attenborough's Tabcorp.

So Racing.com apparently agreed that it would not be showing any fixed-odds betting during its broadcast of the Hong Kong races.

The fly in the ointment is that Packer's Crownbet paid up to $10 million in advertising and sponsorship with Racing.com precisely so it could advertise its services on the channel.

So what happened when the big day arrived last Wednesday?

The Hong Kong races were plastered with advertising from Crownbet.

And the Jockey Club's executives made their feelings clear in the pages of the South China Morning Post.

The "deal with Racing.com explicitly agrees that there are to be no logos or online referrals to betting sites shown during telecasts of Hong Kong racing, other than those of our commingling partner", said club executive, Richard Cheung Che-kit.

Cheung said the Jockey Club would meet and discuss its options ahead of the next race feed to be broadcast by Racing.com on Sunday adding that "this is a shock for us".

"We are discussing, internally, what our options may be, so I cannot say at this time what those options are or what option we might take."

Sure enough, the Sunday broadcast by Racing.com was so clean you could have eaten your breakfast off it.

So was it just a misunderstanding, or a real stuff up by the Racing.com executives?

Well we know what the racing industry does with its lame horses don't we.

So the wagering industry might be keeping a close eye on Racing.com's general manager, Scott Perrin – who came into the job in August last year with no broadcast experience – and his content chief, Shane Anderson.

Not that Perrin should be worried about a wipeout given the fortune he made selling surfwear group Billabong.

And it might mean he doesn't have to worry about selling his $29.5 million palace on the Gold Coast beachfront.

Billionaire biff

Still on James Packer, he and Rupert Murdoch may have a cosy media relationship at the Ten Network but they have been engaged in the mother of all legals battles on the property front – until now.

US digital real estate business Zillow announced that it has agreed to pay Rupert's News Corp $US130 million in a legal settlement which ends a battle that was threatening to hit the property player with up to $US2 billion in damages claims.

Packer signalled in February that he was losing his appetite for the battle by selling down most of his stake in Zillow which he acquired in 2013 for $US300 million.

In 2014, Rupert's News Corp acquired Zillow rival Move.

The settlement comes one week before the trial was due to start with Murdoch's Move alleging its former executives stole trade secrets and later tried to cover up their actions by destroying evidence.

In April, one of the executives, Curt Beardsley, testified that he was just deleting evidence of his porn viewing.

"Today, we reached an amicable resolution to settle our lawsuit with News Corp and the National Association of Realtors," Zillow said in a statement to the market.

"The agreement allows us to put this litigation behind us, and continue our focus on innovation and the huge opportunity in front of us as the consumer-focused market leader."

Move also said it is "pleased to have reached an amicable resolution of this litigation".

The legal battle has weighed on Zillow's performance.

Its chief executive, Spencer Rascoff, reported a net loss of $US25.7 million in February which included $US8.1 million of legal costs relating to its litigation with the News Corp subsidiary.

Rascoff said the cost of the lawsuit could reach $US60 million.

Asked when it all will end, Rascoff was happy to give a certain US media mogul a blast.

"You'd have to ask Rupert Murdoch that question," Rascoff said.

"We're focused on innovating; News Corp. is focused on litigating.

"Unfortunately you see this all too often in business, where companies that lose on the business battlefield resort to the courtroom out of desperation ... It's vindictive, it's baseless."

Packer sold down his stake the following week.

Rascoff is obviously still recovering from the settlement.

He has, for example, yet to inform his Twitter followers, his last update being about his yoga habits.
