Not only is she a busy working mum, she is also the ‘manager’ of the latest star in her family.
The honour goes not to one of her talented children but her beloved King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Comet.
Comet is now playing the demanding role of ‘Toto’ in TIGS production of the Wizard of Oz running from Thursday June 23 to Saturday June 25. And played staring role at the recent Illawarra Women in Business Awards.
For many weeks Comet has been passed lovingly around by the cast as he and they spend many hours rehearsing. He excelled himself in his first performances at the IWIB Awards. He wowed the crowd when he took to the stage with students Darcy and Lucinda. Then he and the full student cast and orchestra performed a showcase during TIGS Great Fete. ‘Toto’ has not shown any signs of stage fright at all.
Teacher and production director Jane McIntosh said working with such a varied cast was enlightening and inspiring. She said it was perfectly okay to work with children and animals. When selecting our Production each year, our main objective is to endeavor in an experience that will benefit and advance our students,” she said.
“The Wizard of Oz has allowed for a large student involvement of over 100 students stemming from the cast, orchestra, entertainment students, photo media team and make-up team. The production showcases student’s talents in singing, dancing, acting, music, make-up and technical abilities. However it is not just about student involvement and enhancing skills. It is important that our production choices also lead our students to learn new insights and lessons that transfer into their everyday lives.”
Meanwhile Mrs Silburn is enjoying her moment with Comet and is hoping there will be many appreciative audiences at the Wizard of Oz during the next week.
As for Comet’s future acting career Mrs Silburn said “watch this space”.
Her children have also reminded her that maybe Oscar the cat has some hidden talents as well.
