THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR
Every day we are being ripped off by business or politicians and there is a constant proof of this in the media. We recently had ex-politicians whinging about not being able to manage on their pensions and wanting more from the public purse.

How do they think pensioners manage on their pensions? These greedy groups cannot get enough of their god, the mighty dollar, they have forgotten that you come into this world with nothing and leave it the same way.

PRESENTATIONS INFORMATIVE
From reading the article “Takes Bishop. Checkmate” (Illawarra Mercury, June 11, 2016) apparently freedom of speech is only allowed if certain persons agree with what you are going to say.
I have been to a talk given on 'the impacts of same sex marriage’ by a Labor politician and I found it very informative, not in the least dogmatic and most decidedly not bigoted.
It was promoted by the same group, I believe, as the the one that invited the AFA to come to St Therese. I have looked for the flyer and have found nothing discriminatory on it. It simply offers what they consider the effects of same sex marriage.
Why have those quoted in the article decided to presume and condemn its content? Why would someone who chooses to send their child to a christian school not expect christian principles to be upheld?
Why should a christian arena allow non-Christian views be promoted in their building? Would any gay club allow 'same sex' promoters their premises for an address? I think not.
I'm tired of anyone who dares to say anything against same sex marriage being called 'bigots', 'homophobes', 'dinosaurs' and other less savoury names.
My advice to your anonymous parent is that if you don't like your school's Catholic ideals, move your child to another school where you will be happier.

THE FINANCIAL REALITY
Following Bill Shorten’s press conference regarding changes to family tax benefits, Laurie Oakes appeared on national television.
News and joined other conservative cheerleaders when he said: “The coalition usually have a better record managing the economy”.
Research tells us otherwise. Just look at our past history.
In 1983, Fraser handed over the economy rated 20th in the world. Hawke and Keating passed Howard the rating of sixth.
Howard, despite rivers of gold from the mining boom, let us slip to 10th and left us with a tax structure that guaranteed future deficits for many years.
Rudd and Gillard, despite the global financial crisis, by eschewing austerity and giving cash to the bottom end of town and investing heavily in infrastructure projects that kept people in work, left the economy BEST in the world.
And in less than three years of neocon slash and burn, the Coalition has put us at the bottom of the OECD league. That puts us 38th.
The Coalition never achieved a AAA rating from all 3 agencies, nor have any of their appalling treasurers won the coveted international Treasurer’s award. Trust them to manage the economy? I don’t think so.
