Characters Elsa, Anna and Olaf put on their skates for the latest Disney on Ice spectacular at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
They’ll be joined by friends from The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, plus favourites like Minnie Mouse.
Focusing on the journeys of strong female characters is a first for the production company, who’s been bringing animation to life for 30 years.
“We are taking a fresh new spin on how we’re presenting the Disney stories,” says producer Juliette Feld.
“We are weaving together the four worlds of royal sisters Anna and Elsa, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel as they each embark on their own epic journey.”
Thursday’s daytime audience saw dozens of little girls dressed in princess costumes, some as Olaf, sitting wide-eyed as the graceful dancers skimmed across the ice.
Gasps and cheers could be heard when new characters appeared, while most of the audience was seen mouthing along to the songs.
Sofie Roberg plays Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled and is partnered with her real life Prince Charming, her fiance Matvey Matveev.
Roberg began skating at age seven in her home-town of Bollnas, Sweden. So many times she tried different sports but always came back to her main love, the ice.
Her major dream for as long as she can remember was to one day be selected to perform with Disney on Ice.
“I don’t know really where or how I got the idea from … but it was there since I was pretty little,” she said.
She’s been been living the dream for seven years now and says her favourite memory was is a slight mishap when raising a lantern with a child from the audience.
My favorite memory is when we raise the lantern with a child from the audience. It once was a super cute little girl that punched me in the face.
