It was not the best of starts for Saturday’s $25,000 cash pool winner, Eaglebet, with his first seven tips bombing out but the South Australian kept chipping away to finally take home $10,800 cash.

In a closely contested tournament Eaglebet was lucky that no punter made a real break from the rest of the pack.
“I certainly didn’t start too well, but the beauty of the tournaments is that often you’re never completely out of them and things can change quickly,” Eaglebet said.
He made sure he kept in touch with the leading pack by using the Tournaments’ ability to rebuy.
This is when you purchase another ticket to get back into the competition to have another crack at winning some money.
“I think I used about five or so rebuys? While the leaders’ scores were not getting too out of reach, I was happy to rebuy and keep trying to get somewhere in touch with them on the scoreboard,” Eaglebet said.
With the leaders BettaBucks winning pots not too far out of reach Eaglebet knew it would only take one or two winners to leapfrog up the leaderboard, so carefully used his form analysis to pick a good chance.
“I was trying to get myself within striking distance of the leaders so I could have a crack at first prize in the final race.
“When Mubakkir won that got me to about $100,000 Bettabucks, which was well up the leaderboard at that stage,” he said.

It was Race 9 at Moonee Valley that saw Eaglebet hit the top of the leaderboard and get one hand on the 1 st Prize of $10,800 but he could have lost his chance with bitemenow hot on his heels.
The two South Australians were about to go head-to- head to the line with big money on the line: 1st Prize: $10,800 with a 2nd Prize worth $3520.79.
Eaglebet’s dilemma was that he favoured two picks in the race: Voodoo Lad and Duke of Brunswick, knowing he would have to pile his stack of Betabucks onto one or the other if he were to win the Tournament.
“I thought Voodoo Lad’s latest run was very brave when taken on in front, had the DK Weir polish and would be suited around the Valley so I had him top pick,” he said.
There is nothing more tense than topping the leaderboard and waiting to see if you have won, particularly when the top six players were so close with their stacks of BettaBucks; just ask Eaglebet.
“When the race was on I was madly clicking on their bet history to see what they had backed and luckily a few of them went for Duke of Brunswick,” Eaglebet said.
One of those players who had backed Duke of Brunswick was bitemenow who was magnanimous in defeat, going into the sledgebox to congratulate the winner:
Tournament winner Eaglebet is a great fan of the TopBetta Tournaments and said he enjoys working out strategies to try to grab the cash and win the comp.
“There’s a chance for everyone whether you’re after the big prizes or want to earn money at the lower end of the payouts – often very small bank balances of Bettabucks at the end of the day can still finish in the cash,” Eaglebet said.
