i3net executive officer Tony Green said the forum was designed to provide more information to local industry about the Wollongong Defence Advantage Strategy.
“This strategy aims to maximise the participation of Wollongong Industry in the $195 billion defence industry projects over the next decade as announced in the recent Defence White Paper. This is demonstrated by DCNS’s recent visit to the region,” he said.
Key elements of the Defence Advantage Strategy were the appointment of a Defence industry advocate.Former Bisalloy chief executive Robert Terpening’s task is to assist Wollongong companies secure defence projects. Bisalloy supplied armoured plate for the Bushmaster, Air Warfare Destroyer, Collins class submarine and Adelaide class frigate programs
Another key element is the Industry Capability Mapping Program that includes assistance to help companies develop a Department of Defence compliant capability quad chart and a submarine grade welding study through the Defence Material Technology Centre (DMTC)
Advantage Wollongong is a partnership between Wollongong City Council, University of Wollongong and the NSW Department of Industry and has had stands at major defence industry events such as LandForces 2016, Avalon International Airshow 2017 and Pacific 2017
