It is understood the trike, carrying two passengers, was clipped by a vehicle while travelling along Memorial Drive just after 1.30pm.
The impact caused the trike to flip over.
The two riders were thrown from the vehicle.
Polcie closed a north-bound lane of the busy roadway while paramedics treated the two men – one for chest injuries, and the other for a dislocated shoulder and possible fractured wrist.
Both men were also suffering from multiple lacerations and abrasions, treating paramedics later told the Mercury.
The pair were stablised at the scene before being transported to Wollongong Hospital via road ambulance.
Traffic became banked up along the Northern Distributor as a result of the crash, with police putting diversions in place until the scene could be cleared.
