Two bushwalkers spent a cold night in the Royal National Park before being winched to safety by helicopter on Monday morning.

Police were alerted 5.30pm Sunday by a a 50-year-old woman and 47-year-old man who had become lost after leaving a trail near Karloo Pools walking track. Unable to be located due to the terrain and darkness, police told the couple to remain at their location. The couple were uninjured and well prepared with warm clothing, water, mobile phones, a torch, whistle and were able to light a fire to keep warm.
PolAir resumed their search on Monday and located the couple shortly before 9am, winching them out of the bush. Police have reminded bushwalkers to be prepared before venturing out into the bush this winter.
