As of July 2, the northern suburbs track will shift from Friday night meetings to Saturday as part of an scheduling overhaul at the beginning of the new financial year.
Bulli Operations Manager Darren Hull says it will provide a massive boost for the club.
“I think it is really good because if you had a choice of which night to race on you would pick Saturday every day of the week,” he said.
“We are pretty excited about it to tell you the truth.
“There hasn’t been any kind of Saturday night racing, since the Bulli trots ended, for donkey’s years.”
“It should be a real boost.”
Bulli have been forced to change the day of their meetings several times in the past few years but will attempt to nail down a permanent spot on Saturdays.
Previously the club had meetings on Wednesday night before moving to Friday last year.
Starting this weekend they will swap meeting times with Western Sydney track Richmond.
Richmond and the state’s racing headquarters Wentworth Park previously raced on Saturday evenings, but Hull says the change will provide added variety for trainers.
“Bulli and Wentworth Park are two different tracks,” he said.
“Bulli is the biggest track in NSW.
“It is 650m from winning post to winning post where as your Dapto and Wenty Park are only about 440-450m so there is two different styles of racing.
“It is two different styles of racing so it will be a better mix.”
The change comes as GRNSW moves to reduce Non Tab Meetings by 25% from July 1.
“What that does is hobby trainers will be looking for places to race on weekends,” Hull said.
“A lot of people can’t get to at Gosford on Tuesday night or Wentworth Park on Wednesday night because they work.
“With those meetings being cut back, so people will need somewhere to race.
“Bulli is that somewhere because not everyone has a dog which can run at Wentworth Park on a Saturday night.
“It gives us the chance to attract new participants to the area that normally don’t come here.”
Hull said he has already been contacted by several trainers from around the state looking to bring greyhounds to the track and race there for the first time.
In a further boost for the club, Bulli has been allocated 10 race meetings at a new metro introduction prizemoney level.
“We were one of four race clubs in NSW that they allocated them too,” Hull said.
“Richmond, us, Mailand and Bulli – and they are basically double prize money meetings.
“That’s excellent news as well.
“You are probably talking between about $30,000 and $40,000 prizemoney per meeting.”
Bulli will bring in the new era of Saturday night racing this weekend.
