Heyday is the newest venue for young Wollongong entrepreneur Adam Murphy who said he wanted to do more to bring more life to the city centre at all times of the day and night.
Mr Murphy’s new lounge bar venture will only be open late at night with quality food until 3am. But it is not a nightclub like Hostage which previously occupied the site.
Mr Murphy described it as a late night lounge bar modeled on the 1940s golden era of Hollywood. Work is well advanced both in the indoor lounge bar and an outdoor garden area. He said Heyday was about making a positive contribution and activating an area that has already had a number of new food and drink venues open in the last couple of years. He felt confident to acquire the former nightclub following the success of the three level Humber with its rooftop bar. Heyday is located just 100 metres west along Crown St. “The small bar culture in the city has already proven to be a hit with residents and you can see the area is becoming more vibrant..during the day and the night. We will have high quality food and drink options till 3am,” he said.
“The continued year on year decrease in alcohol related violence, for the last several years, shows that the mixture of bars, food and entertainment options are proving popular for creating a safe and active CBD. Wollongong is growing and changing. And it’s exciting to be involved.”
