And Dower is also confident of keeping her W-League stars despite rumoured big-money raids from Melbourne City for goalkeeper Lydia Williams and striker Michelle Heyman.

​Brush is currently playing for the Houston Dash, where she's playing alongside her Canberra goalkeeper Williams.

The 27-year-old was involved in Matildas camps over the summer, but she wasn't part of the squad that took on New Zealand in two games in early June despite putting in strong performances for the Dash.

Dower thought that was an indication of where Brush sat in Matildas coach Alen Stajcic's defensive pecking order in terms of earning selection for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

But Dower felt the online streaming of NWSL games meant that Stajcic and his scouts would have had an eye on Brush.

The Matildas will find out internally on Friday who has made the cut for Rio, with an official announcement expected early next week.

"I'm fairly certain Staj and his scouting team have been watching all the [overseas] games with interest," Dower said.

"The wonderful access online for the live-streaming games from the NWSL is brilliant.

"I've watched a number of games already this year and there's the opportunity to see all the players in contention – not only in the US, but Sweden, the UK, Japan, Korea."

There's rumours W-League champions Melbourne City, who are owned by English Premier League giants Manchester City, were circling Williams and Heyman with big money offers.

Dower said because of the W-League salary cap there wasn't much leeway for Canberra United to match any potential offers, but they could do it in other ways – such as their players having a higher profile in Canberra than the major cities.

The United mentor said no contracts could be signed yet – because the FFA hadn't created them – but she was confident of retaining most of her players from last season.

"We're confident of hanging on to all the players that have indicated to us that they'd like to come back and be part of the green family for season nine," Dower said.

"Negotiations are going really, really well with everyone that we've had contact with."
