The widening of the road would occur at the northern end, from Kellerman Drive to three kilometres south.
The possible work would support future housing developments along Appin Road.
“Initially the investigations will consider an upgrade for Appin Road from St Johns Road to four kilometres south, which adjoins the proposed Mt Gilead priority growth precinct,” an RMS spokeswoman said.
“The planning will investigate options to widen the road from two lanes to four, along with new access points to the proposed residential precinct. Roads and Maritime Services is working with the Department of Planning and Environment to carry out the investigations and will update the community as plans progress.”
