The initiative, the first of its kind across NRL clubs, is a major step towards establishing a national women’s league which NRL CEO Todd Greenberg hopes to have up and running by 2021.
Jillaroos star Hammond said such an initiative was merely a dream a matter of years ago.
“A couple of years ago we didn’t think that this would ever happen, it was just a massive dream,” Bremner said.
“The Cronulla Sharks have really backed up the NRL by creating this pathway for girls wanting to play rugby league. There is a lot of talent within the women’s game but we lose a lot of girls to other codes.
“Now we have the opportunity to play under the NRL banner I think we’ll find a lot more talent out there.”
