Mr Suter presented three ways of thinking about the future and emphasised the importance of Moore’s Law on the impact of the power of computers.
“Prediction is mostly a waste of time but Moore’s Law is absolutely spot on and who knows where we will be 30 years. Secondly we have a vision to work toward. I recommend Blue Ocean Thinking. And thirdly scenario planning. Thinking about what could happen and reducing the risk of being taken by surprise.”
Mr Suter also spoke on importance of perception.
“We see what we are prepared to see. We see what our emotions have sensitised us to see. We are changing our perception of what it is to be human. We always used to think human beings were rational..seeking to maximise self gain. We now know that people..make emotional decisions and use their brain to rationalise them.”
Mr Sutor said facts don’t necessarily win arguments and logic alone doesn’t change emotions. But if a perception changes then emotions change.
“We are living in a time of very exciting change but it is up to us to make the most of it. Being aware of how we can think about the future is a great way to make the most of our opportunities”.
