The Illawarra bowls community is saddened by the death of popular Windang bowler George Stewart, whose funeral will be held this afternoon.
A member of Windang Bowling Club for 25 years, he passed away last Saturday following a long illness. He was 64.
Mr Stewart won a host of Windang championships and was also a top player at Illawarra Zone 16 level and served as the coach at Windang for 13 years.
In 2010 he achieved one of his career highlights by being selected in the NSW senior bowls squad. Mr Stewart was also a president of the NSW Police Bowls Association.
His funeral service will be at the Northcliffe Chapel of Hansen and Cole Funerals at Kembla Grange today at 1pm.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his son, grandson and stepson.
