2014 Commonwealth Games rep Lucas picked up the interim PABA middleweight title via a 10-round unanimous decision win over tough slugger Peter Georgiou.

Maltese-born Batemans Bay-based Laamouz also continued to turn all the right heads with his own 10-round UD win over Fijian rival Sebastian Singh to collect the WBA Asia super-lightweight belt.

Lucas joins a long list of Australian boxing luminaries who’ve won a PABA title including regular sparring partner Daniel Geale, Danny Green, Anthony Mundine and good mate Jamie Pittman.

It’s a title that can open some big doors for the for the former decorated amateur who is now 7-0 as a professional.

“One of my closest friends in boxing Jamie Pittman held it and it led to him getting a world title shot at [former middleweight world champion] Felix Sturm five or six fights later.

“Daniel Geale, Danny Green, Anthony Mundine, Billy Dib...all those guys have held it and they’ve all gone on to win world titles and Jamie went on and fought for a legitimate world title against one of the best middleweights in the world at the time.

“For me it’s the first step to that. I’m not getting ahead of myself I still have heaps of development to undergo but I’m looking at building on this over the next couple of years and hopefully I can join the list [of world champions].”

For Laamouz, also 7-0, it was the second strap he’s picked up in his past two fights since moving from Malta to link with coach Nudge Mieli. He won the NSW junior-welterweight belt with an emphatic knock-out win over Will Sands in March before outlasting Singh over a tough 10 round war for the WBA Asia title last week.

He’ll now turn his attention to a bout back in his homeland for the southern European super-lightweight title.

A win would give him an all-important European ranking opening the door for some major fights as he chases the world title dream that saw him move to Australia last year.

“I came here to chase my career and I had a friend put me in touch with Nudge and after my first time training with him and I thought ‘whoah this guy really knows what he’s doing’,” Laamouz said.

“I’ve really increased my power and timing under Nudge. I’m picking the right punches now, where to hit and when to hit. I’ve got no doubt he can take me all the way.

“My last fight was a big test for me, I was fit for it and now I know I can go a full 10 rounds at 101 per cent every round.

“[My next fight] is a another really big fight for me. It will get me ranked in Europe which would be massive for me because that’s my aim, a world title. I want to be a world champion.”
