A mid-week 1-0 loss to ladder-leaders Sydney United extended Wollongong’s win-less run to nine games and has seen the club slide to eleventh on the ladder.
Key injuries and suspensions has reduced an already small Wolves squad to the bare bones and now has them in a fight for their survival in the NSW National Premier League Men’s 1. The club’s finals contending under-18’s and 20’s sides currently has them 20 points clear of Blacktown Spartans in the all-important Club Championship.
It’s sets up a tense final month for the Wolves, but Price says the message remains clear across all three grades.
“It is the same message we have been stressing from the start and that is making sure our commitment and effort are there,” Price said.
“That will give us the best chance we can have of putting our best foot forward to get out of this situation. We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.”
The Wolves face another massive test on Sunday against Blacktown City at WIN Stadium. City are second on the NSW NPL ladder and need a win to keep the pressure on Sydney United.
Price, who is racing the clock to be fit for the match, is optimistic.
“We’ve had the three top teams over three weeks and really could have come away with more for it so hopefully we can change that this weekend,” he said.
