The council is offering 21 labourer traineeships within its civil and parks crews.
Successful applicants will help to build footpaths, kerbs and guttering and look after the city’s gardens and open spaces. They will combine the work with TAFE studies throughout their first year.
Saturday’s expo is at council’s South Depot, 239 Nolan Street, from 8am to midday.
Wollongong City Council’s Human Resources Manager (Acting) Shaun Martin said the traineeships were an opportunity to build long-term skills by combining hands-on experience and study.
“Trainees will work across both our civil and park areas,” Mr Martin said.
“I’d encourage anyone who’s interested in applying to come along to our expo on … to check out our depot and meet the team.
“We’ll set up a display of the different types of machinery our crews use, and there’ll be council staff and TAFE representatives on hand to answer questions and talk to people about what’s involved in a traineeship.
“You can still apply online without coming to the expo, but this is a unique chance to see behind the scenes and get a better idea of the roles before applying.”
Applications for the labourer (civil and parks) traineeships are open until 5pm, July 25. Details are on Council’s website.
