City led 3-1 at the break before the Wolves produced an almighty second half effort in an attempt to salvage something from the match.
Those efforts ultimately came up short.
They’ve now failed to win a league match since the 1st of May in a streak which has now lasted 10 matches.
For Wolves coach Jacob Timpano the most recent defeat told a familiar tale.
“That probably sums up our season,” he said.
“In the last three weeks we have played the top three teams and really should have got something from each game.
“The performances have been pretty good and I can’t fault the boys effort.
“They’ve been putting everything into it and as we seen today, the commitment and attitude is second to none. Unfortunately the reality is we don’t have that extra bit of quality to win games of football at the moment.”
An undermanned Wolves side fell behind in the 21st minute Patrick Antelmi got through clean on goal and chipped Daniel Collison. The hosts struck straight back through Ricky Zucco but were behind again when Sasa Macura finished off from a rebound.
City got a third through Travis Major in the shadows of half time which would prove crucial in the end.
Steven Hristovski scored int he 54th minute to give the Wolves some hope, but they couldn’t find an equaliser despite coming close on several occasions.
