Soprano Shauntai Batske, a developing artist with indigenous opera company Short Black Opera, will perform in a special concert to raise funds for her to attend the prestigious Canto de las Americas opera program in New York. Ms Batske made her operatic debut in 2010 in Deborah Cheetham’s Pecan Summer and will return to the role at the Sydney Opera House in September upon her return from the US.
Coledale singing teacher Karen Cummings, who has previously worked with Ms Batske, said she was looking forward to performing a duet with her on Saturday.
“Wonderful indigenous baritone Don Bemrose, who performed in Cloud Street, is also singing and we are being accompanied by Simon Kenway, one of Australia's leading conductors and vocal coaches,” Ms Cummings said. The concert is on July 23 at 3pm. Tickets are $20 at the door.
