A Kiama woman has found $20,000 worth of gold bullion in her backyard, prompting a police search for the owner.

The woman attended Lake Illawarra Police Station on Thursday and handed police the a package of gold.
She told police she had found the package in the backyard of her Kiama home two days earlier.
Checks have indicated the bullion it is valued at about 20,000.
Police have commenced inquires and are now trying to return the gold to its lawful owner.
Police are urging anyone with a claim to the gold, or information regarding the discovery to come forward.
Proof of ownership will be required.
