Ms Kotevski has cerebral palsy and is a quadriplegic and while she cannot deliver a lecture verbally, she gets her point across using PowerPoint presentations and voice software technology.

The 29-year-old, who operates her wheelchair via a chin control, is in her fourth semester as a tutor for the commerce internship program. She answered the Mercury's questions for this article via email - as she mostly does with her students.

"I have had severe cerebral palsy from an error at birth. From a lack of oxygen I experienced damage to my brain, thus, I lost the ability to walk and use my hands. I also have a severe speech impairment," she said.

"I interact with my students online via UOW's eLearning platform. The main interaction I have with the students is when they submit daily e-logs of their days worked during their internship.

"My duty is to make sure everything is progressing well in their internship and to provide them with advice and encouragement if an issue arises. I also communicate to them in our two lectures via voice output."

Having completed a commerce degree and a Masters of Management with distinction, Ms Kotevski is a very capable tutor - and she is also teaching her students valuable life lessons.

Dr Lynnaire Sheridan, the co-ordinator of the internship program, said while some students were initially "a bit confused" to learn that their tutor had severe disabilities, they soon recognised her considerable abilities.

"Once they get to know her and interact with her in an online environment, a lot of their preconceptions about disability get left behind," Dr Sheridan said.

One of her students, Blake Coleman, said: "She's a great tutor - and she's really quick at giving feedback and marking assignments."

Ms Kotevski added: "I hope others will learn that the greatest ability to have is will and determination. I hope I inspire my students and others to reach for their goals."
