After missing the finals last year, Devils’ Tim Robinson, who led the first division to the 2015 title and coached the women’s team, believes the premier league squad has plenty of fire power.
“The premier league boys struggled to field their best side on a regular basis last season,” he said.
“They bounced back to finish in the top four at State Cup in December and definitely have the skill and strike to go all the way.”
The 12-round competition starts at Minto, with 113 teams competing across the various divisions.
Former Australian Men's Open representatives Matt Tope and Terry Deegan will lead the Devils’ charge.
The division one team will defend their crown, after losing just one game last year.
They outclassed Central Coast 8-3 in the final to complete a remarkable year.
“After years of trying the side finally claimed the Vawdon Cup and that has confidence soaring heading into the season,” Robinson said.
Meanwhile, it looms as a rebuilding year for the Women’s Premier league team without talented trio Cara Zaremski, Rachael Beck and Jess McCall.
New South Wales representatives Ash Dobbins, Mel McCall and Rebecca Hannon are among the more experienced members of the squad.
“After two months of hard training, the younger girls are beginning to step up and the focus is still on making the top six,” Robinson said.
