A concerned member of the community contacted police to report a person acting suspiciously in Collie Way about 9.30am.
Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and saw a man inside a residence.
It will be alleged the man ran into the backyard of the home, jumped a fence and ran through a neighbouring yard before jumping another fence onto Helena Street where he was stopped by police and arrested.
Police seized a number of items suspected of being stolen as well as a knife and a screw driver.
A 26-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter and committing a strictly indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
