The school holds a series of interest pods offering a range of activities for students looking to learn a new skill or just engage in a more structured activity at recess and lunch.
Not surprisingly, one of the most popular is the skate pod, run by teacher and skating enthusiast Paul Thompson. He began teaching Stage 3 students and has now added another session for Stage 2 students.
“Teaching skating has been really positive and a great way to connect with the kids,” he said.
“The students are challenging themselves, learning about safety, thinking about how to balance and use their bodies and how to take care of themselves.”
Corrimal East principal Bede Darcey said the interest pods were introduced this year to provide an engaging structured play option for students.
Both teachers and students contributed ideas, with yoga, comic drawing, ping-pong, gymnastics, Lego and soccer joining skating on the interest pod calendar.
