Melissa Harrison, Michelle Ritchie and Theresa Bateup all tasted success after making the three hour trip down the coast.
Harrison started the day on the right note when new addition Dashley Dubh ($4,60) sprinted best to win the Bryan ‘Joey’ Milthorpe Maiden Plate (930m). The three-year-old only arrived in Harrison’s care from Gold Coast trainer Trevor Whittington earlier this year and was having his first run for the new stable.
He finished best under the urging of last season’s Kembla champion apprentice Jess Taylor.
Kembla trainers were on track to dominate the card as Ritchie claimed the second of the day with two-year-old filly Dolly’s Due. Pushed out of the barriers to lead by Jeff Penza, the $6 TAB fixed odds hope held a slender advantage one off the fence until the top of the straight.
The promising daughter of Duporth then kicked clear in the straight before holding off Mark Gee-trained Kooringal Star ($7) to win the Ty Barton 2YO Handicap (1020m).
Bateup’s winner came in the last on the card thanks to Freedom Call.
Again it was Jess Taylor who had the steer and she produced a flawless front-running ride to help Freedom Call ($6) salute by 1-½ lengths over Kerry Parker’s Lad About Town in the Darren Cooke Class 2 Handicap (1300m).
Freedom Call has been in career best form for Bateup this preparation and has now secured three victories and a second from her past four starts.
