Illawarra program manager Justine Fitzgibbon said it fits in with the charity’s mission to transform the lives of individuals and families for the better through work experience and training, rehabilitation and homelessness services, as well as providing emergency essentials to those in need.
Party-goers are encouraged to glam up in items like tuxedo’s, sequined dresses, faux fur or anything “tight and bright” to help surpass last year’s fundraising efforts of $50,000.
“What better cause to indulge in some fashion faux pas than supporting Mission Australia’s social enterprises,” Ms Fitzgibbon said.
Vintage bargains can be found by scouring the isles of their Big Heart Op Shops across the Illawarra.
Both Corrimal and Bellambi stores charge only $9 per kilo of cool finds, the equivalent of a pair of jeans and a jumper, rather than individual ticketing.
Ms Fitzgibbon said the shops were also treasure troves for home styling goods, picking up a funky pineapple lamp herself.
“Not only do our social enterprises divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill, but they also provide vital job, training and volunteer opportunities for hundreds of local people who have been long term unemployed or face barriers to getting into the workforce,” she said.
Four hundred tickets are available for the ball, which include a three course meal and drinks. Tickets are at $125 per person or $1000 for a table of 10.
