This new regional network is one of six in NSW and incorporates Southern Highlands, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven local government areas. Minister for tourism and major events Stuart Ayres said the Destination NSW board was seeking applications for chair and five board members of each regional network as part of the reforms to boost regional tourism across the state. “I encourage those with relevant experience to join our new skills-based, professional boards that will focus on attracting even more visitors to our regions.” he said. For the first time, positions will be paid with the chair receiving $20,000 per annum and board directors $10,000 on a three to four-year appointment. South Coast regional tourism organisation chair Catherine Shields described it as a great opportunity to become part of the team overseeing the strategic direction of our all-important South Coast visitor economy.
“The new Destination Network will be charged with developing all aspects of our tourism offer including a new focus on events, conferences, cruise and indigenous tourism,” she said.
