The council passed a motion from Cr Jill Merrin at its June 27 meeting calling for the testing.
It also requested that the colliery be required to take action to prevent the pollution from coal fines runoff continuing to occur.
The motion came after a council public access forum where a resident complained about continued problems with runoff.
A longstanding obligation to realign Bellambi Creek within the mine lease had not been completed by the miner, nor its predecessor Gujarat NRE Coking Coal.
