The work to 1.1 kilometres of fencing to minimise rock falls will be done in two stages.
The first will see the closure of the pass from October 4 – the day after the Labour Day long weekend – to December 5.
But there is a second nine-week closure planned for late April to late June 2017 to install the remaining fencing.
“The program of two nine-week closures was considered most effective while minimising impact to motorists,” a Roads and Maritime Services release stated.
This meant the fencing could be installed safely and avoided the closure of Bulli Pass over the busy summer period.
“A two-stage closure with a break for the summer and tourist season is considered to be the safest and most efficient way to install the fence,” RMS stated.
The planned closure in 2017 will be designed to avoid public and school holidays.
Dates for the second closure will be confirmed in early 2017.
