News that the franchise would open on GPT’s dining strip was met with much excitement from Mercury readers when it was announced in January.
However, with no activity in the restaurant shopfront for several months – and no liquor licence application lodged – it’s been clear the opening would not go ahead as planned.
GPT’s regional general manager Antony Keenan this week confirmed Criniti’s would no longer open and would be replaced by another chain – Outback Jacks Bar & Grill.
“While we understand Criniti’s is still looking to enter the Wollongong market in the future, it would be inappropriate for us to comment on the circumstances surrounding the decision,” he said.
“GPT is excited to welcome Outback Jacks Bar & Grill to fill the tenancies, a first to the Illawarra region and the only steakhouse and bar in the Wollongong Central dining precinct.”
Meantime, Mr Keenan said the fitout of the new H&M store was “progressing well”.
“We expect to announce an opening date in the next few weeks,” he said.
