The project will repair the eastern and western walls of the pool, which will be closed to the public while work is underway.
The work is required as “the pool structure has deteriorated over time due to the location in a harsh marine environment” leading to erosion of the existing rock and concrete around the pool, a report from the council said. Additionally, the seawalls were found to be cracking and eroding away.
At their June 27 meeting, councillors voted to accept a tender for $208,300 (excluding GST), for Cadifern Pty Ltd to complete the repairs.
The pool is expected to open for the summer, “if ocean and weather conditions are good”.
It is “located within an active wave environment at high tide and work can only be completed during low tides coinciding with low seas and swell.”
