The 2,300 square metre store will take up the Wollongong Central space vacated by the David Jones homewares section last year.
GPT’s regional general manager Antony Keenan said the opening would be a milestone in the rejuvenation of the city’s CBD.
“Since H&M first announced its plans to open a store in Wollongong in late June, the response from the local community has been amazing,” he said.
“Apart from enhancing the appeal of the centre as the Illawarra’s key shopping and leisure destination, the entry of H&M marks another milestone in the rejuvenation of Wollongong’s CBD.”
The international chain first entered the Australian market in 2014 and since expanded to 12 sites across the country.
Its first openings, in Melbourne and Sydney, have attracted long lines and feverish crowds.
The Wollongong H&M opening will be celebrated with a four day festival, entitled “Paint The Town Red”, GPT said on Wednesday.
H&M said the Wollongong store would include apparel, underwear and accessories for Men, Women, Kids and Baby.
