Talia has been placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond. No conviction was recorded.

He has been issued with a first strike under the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy and given a suspended $5000. He must also attend counselling and education programs.

Talia is set to face more sanctions from the Swans after he addresses his teammates.

It's unclear when this will take place but Fairfax Media understands it is imminent though not before Saturday's game against Port Adelaide.

The Swans can fine him a maximum $5000 under the AFL/AFL Players Association code of conduct.

The 23-year-old was arrested after he was caught with a small bag of cocaine in Knox Lane, Double Bay, in Sydney's eastern suburbs in July.

At the time police said they were patrolling around Double Bay when they saw Talia and another man walking down Knox Lane and into an alcove.

They were searched and, after drugs were found, Talia was given a court attendance notice to appear before Waverley Local Court.

Outside court Talia apologised to his friends, family, teammates and the club.

"I'm obviously very disappointed in my actions. I'm looking forward to learning from this experience and putting it all behind me," Talia told reporters.

Talia's club-imposed suspension has not been lifted.

"Following his arrest last month Michael was stood down from all club activities and that remains the case, such is the severity of this situation," the Swans football manager Tom Harley said.

"It's clearly disappointing and concerning to have one of our players in this position, but Michael is a Swans player and we will continue to support him from both a welfare and education perspective.

"As a club we will now sit down with Michael and discuss our next steps, in terms of how and when he might return to training."
