The Illawarra Mercury and the Wollongong Wolves combined for a special giveaway to Wednesday night’s FFA Cup clash between A-League heavyweight Sydney FC and the local hopes, the Wolves.
The prize – a four-person corporate experience to the big game which will be beamed across the country on Fox Sports and is expected to attract an expected crowd of 10,000 to WIN Stadium.
We asked people to share an image of the little member in their household who is a big football fan and tell a bit of a story about their love of the world game.
We got some great entries and you can see a gallery online at illawarramercury.com.au.
However, there could only be one winner. The winner was young Lucas Tancevski.
Lucas (7), of Horsley, was nominated by his mother Diana and pictured with his little brother Justin (2). In her submission Diana wrote _
“Lucas lives and breathes soccer. He plays for his local team and boosts his skills at the Football South Coast Academy.
Lucas wakes up and puts on Fox Sports Channel to check overnight scores to memorise the score and leaderboard.
He then updates his classmates on the scores for news at school.
He reads biographies of famous soccer stars such as Pele and Tim Cahill and watches movies and plays FIFA.
He has over 12 jerseys consisting of local, national and international teams.
He owns 18 soccer balls and sleeps with a ball in his bed. Lucas' life is soccer, soccer, soccer.
He dresses his brother in soccer jerseys so they play in the backyard on the same team.
Lucas is soccer mad and would absolutely love to win this ‘once in a lifetime experience’.
It would show him that dreams can happen, just like in the books he reads about soccer stars.
He has scored 52 goals this season for his team and this experience would be another wonderful addition to his ‘soccer crazy’ life.”
Congratulations Lucas and we hope you enjoy the evening.
Wednesday night promises to be one of the biggest moments in football for this region in some time.
While starting as rank outsiders, let’s hope the Wolves can triumph over Sydney FC in this David and Goliath battle.
