WASTE OF PUBLIC MONEY
The waste of public money in extolling the benefits of the NBN in full-page advertisements is disgusting.

I hold a letter dated May 29 stating that the NBN will contact me shortly – three months later no contact.
A friend over the last five months has had 11 appointments to connect cancelled without prior notice or apology.
The abrogation of the NBN's responsibility to third party suppliers is unconscionable and requires applicants to seek answers from their supplier who in turn must contact NBN who give no reason for their abominable service.
To rub salt into the wound we are then advised that if you do not apply for connection the copper wire service will be removed.
Any complaints receive platitudes from the third party suppliers' staff (usually off shore) who must be equally frustrated.
There is no facility for the complainant to speak directly to the NBN and of course the big con is that people who only require a landline service are forced to pay for data access they will not use.

ANSWER HONESTLY
I am sorry that Nina Azam (Illawarra Mercury, August 9, 2016) thought that I was insinuating that Muslims were not good people with my recent letter regarding stating your faith on the census form.
Happily there are more good people than evil in every walk of life no matter what their creed.
I am tolerant of all religions and cultures and respect every person's right to his or her own beliefs.
The point I was trying to make was to think before answering that question and not put some stupid inane answer which does not reflect the type of country we live in.
I don't think that Nina would take umbrage from that.
I think, like me, she realises how lucky we are to live in Australia where we have tolerance, respect and love of others.

AMASSING THE WEALTH
The Washington Post ran an article that revealed that 65 per cent of the richest people in Australia have amassed their wealth via political connections rather than via innovative businesses.
The Guardian put the figure at closer to 80 per cent. The list of the top 200 richest Australians abound with _
- Mining magnates who enjoyed favourable government concessions.
- CEOs of superannuation funds who personally benefitted from government guarantees locking hundreds of thousands of people into doing business with them.
- Banking and finance CEOs who the government guarantees favourable legislation.
- And, the largest group of all, property developers who rely on rezoning and other favourable political decisions.
Corporations, along with their CEOs, are seizing a bigger piece of the nation’s economic pie for themselves, leaving the nation’s workers and their families diminished.
If the Australian workers are paid in accordance with increasing productivity, then the reliance on credit to sustain consumption expenditure would be reduced and economic growth would be stronger.

CENSUS SECURITY RUBBISH
What rubbish it is for treasurer Scott Morrison to say that all the census on line information is secure. Every man and his dog realizes that computers can be hacked into.
Two years ago Lord "what's his name" who was head of British Telecommunications admitted that internet communications is as private as an open holiday postcard sent by mail.
