Temperatures across the region climbed to 20 degrees at Bellambi Point and 21 inland at Albion Park to kick-off the working week – both a couple of degrees above their respective August averages.
Similar conditions are expected for the rest of this week, with temperatures in the low to mid-20s set to deliver the Illawarra its warmest four-day August spell in five years.
Wollongong is forecast to bask in maximums of 20 degrees or higher between Tuesday and Friday, while Albion Park should enjoy 22 degree-plus conditions in the same period.
A blustery cold front is tipped to end the run of winter warmth on Saturday.
Beachgoers keen for a dip have also been met with warmer-than-usual water conditions.
Sea surface temperatures are above the norm for this time of year.
Beachwatch NSW says the water temperature off Wollongong was 21 degrees on Monday.
