Lone Star Rib House occupies the site of the former Groove Train and Ribs and Rumps eateries. Franchisee Mark Brown and his two partners in the business have already employed 50 people and are still taking applications.
More jobs are being created in the next few weeks as Cold Rock re-opens in time for the arrival of Grill’d Shellharbour and Chong and Co Thai restaurant in a new building constructed near the former playground.
A new playground has been built in conjunction with Stockland CARE foundation partner, Touched By Olivia. It is designed to ensure children of all abilities and ages can play together including those with physical disabilities, vision, hearing and mobility impairments, or spectrum disorders such as autism.
A beach-themed children’s area is expected to open around the same times as Grill’d Healthy Burgers and Cold Rock ice-creamery in the first week of September. Chong and Co is expected to open its doors in mid to late September.
The new Texan inspired restaurant is adding to its 11 established Lone Star stores around Australia. It is trading from 11am to 10 pm daily with dishes such as ribs drowning in Texas gravy, large steaks, burgers with bacon and large Chili Dogs topped with sauce.
Mr Brown said he had been a fan of Lone Star a long time and was thinking about opening a Lone Star on the Central Coast when he heard about the opportunity at Stockland Shellharbour. “It is my kinds of food”. He grew up in the area but worked on Sydney Ferries for 13 years. His partners in the business Ashley Carmichael and his mother Gail Brown. He has employed a manager but plans to be hands on himself. “We have already received such fantastic local feedback,” he said.
Centre manager Glenn Cochrane said Lone Star was a fantastic addition to the new look precinct and would sit nicely alongside the other food retailers. He said the emphasis at the rejuvenated dining precinct was on variety. The new retailers were selected to provide diversity and complement The Avenue’s existing cafés and restaurants.
That includes The Coffee Club, Guzman and Gomez, Max Brenner, Sushi Bay, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar and Cold Rock Ice Creamery.
Stockland development manager Phil Newton said the new outdoor dining precinct was on track to be completely open in early Spring and was well positioned close to nights spots in the city centre to provide more opportunity for people to enjoy a relaxed lunch or entertaining night out.
To date Stockland estimates the $5 million redevelopment of The Avenue with more alfresco dining has created more than 40 local jobs during construction and 120 new, long-term retail employment opportunities for the future.
The development of ‘The Avenue’ at Stockland Shellharbour follows the recent expansion of JB Hi Fi to a larger JB Hi FI Home store, and the expansion of the Harris Scarfe Department store.
