Lake Illawarra continued to hold plenty of good sized luderick along the main channel and number one bait is of course green weed. But don’t overlook peeled prawns and squirt worms.
Luderick will readily take squirties and you’re a chance of landing some thumper winter whiting and big bream that are currently lurking around.
The better tide to fish is the run-out but don’t discredit the run-in, as the fish are still about – you just have to find where they’re schooling.
The beaches have salmon patrolling the back of the shore break with some solid fish amongst them that will hammer ganged pillies. There have been hordes of trevally on the inshore reefs and local headlands and these “blurters” are great fun on lighter line until you hook a 1 kilo plus fish and then it’s on.
Burley up with bread and bran and peeled prawn baits for best success and you are also a chance of landing bream, pigs and a host of other species.
Offshore the report is the water is warmer than normal for this time of year and this has got a lot of game fisho’s rubbing their hands together with the prospect of an early marlin bite.
They way it looks it may only be a matter of time before the first billfish of the season are caught.
There are more than a few good reds about and tell-tale signs are lifeless cephalopods floating above them.
