El-Issa saluted on runners from three of Sydney’s premier stables – Chris Waller, Peter and Paul Snowden and Anthony Cummings – but picked up a suspension in the process.
Stewards found the jockey had exceeded the whip limit by six times prior to the 100m mark when riding Snowden-trained Argentina to victory in the Naomi Cocksedge 40th Birthday 3YO Maiden Handicap (1200m). He was suspended from August 28 to September 7.
His added vigour helped Argentina overhaul Godolphin’s Eusebio in the concluding stages to salute by a short half-head.
Waller’s Cross Stitch finished off well but was 2-¼ lengths back third.
“He is a nice horse,” El-Issa said.
“He gets out running a bit quicker than his legs can carry him.
“Peter is trying to get him to relax and find the line.
“He did that today.”
El-Issa produced a tactically brilliant ride to score for what his second of the day.
After settling horse than mid-field, he scrapped along the fence on Argentina ($7.50) and looked destined to finish second behind the John O’Shea trained $3.40 favourite.
But as Eusebio tired over the concluding stages, Argentina surged up on his inside to get up in his final stride.
“Peter Snowden asked me to ride the horse nice and quiet and they sort of went a bit quicker than I intended them too,” El-Issa said.
“I ended up further back than I anticipated.
“He relaxed nice and I knew he would find the line.
“I thought if I go around a few horses, it is not going to give him every hope.
“In doing so, looking back if I had gone around a horse he wouldn’t have won so I got a nice run through up the paint and he won well.”
The win completed a running double for El-Issa, who won race three on No Doubt.
The Cummings-trained first starter was well supported in the market and jumped as a $3.50 second favourite in the Mitchell Bell 4YO & Up Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Settling in the box-seat, No Doubt stormed clear in impressive fashion when clear in the straight to win by 1-¾ lengths over Smiling All ($15) and Make A Ripple ($2.70).
“He is a nice horse in the making,” El-Issa said.
“He won a good trial at Randwick and he put it together today.
“He has got better things to come.”
El-Issa had his treble when he combined with the Waller-trained Speedwagon.
Again it was a confident ride from the in-form hoop.
He produced Speedwagon at the right moment before holding off Gary Portelli trained She Brings.
Waller also won the next with four-year-old gelding Pianissmo. Rory Hutchings, making a rare appearance at Kembla Grange on a Saturday, came off heels to arrive late in the Happy 60th Birthday Paul Johnston Maiden Plate (1400m).
