Price will accept the four-year-old speedster for the $60,000 TAB Highway Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, but was wary of heavy rain expected over the coming days impacting the Sydney track.
His stable, which will open up a new base at Kembla Grange in the next 12-months, hold a high opinion of Leami Astray and aren’t prepared risk the mare on a rain-affected surface first-up from an injury enforced break.
“We’ll accept with Kathy O’Hara to ride, she won’t run if the weather deteriorates and the track is rain-affected,” Price told Racing NSW.
“We’ll wait and see.
“This mare needs to be on top of the ground and at his early stage of her prep we won’t be taking any risks. Not with the opinion I’ve got of her into the future, she’s a natural high speed mare.”
Leami Astray has had two wins and two placings from four career starts.
