A man was assaulted with a tyre lever during a break-in at an Oak Flats home yesterday morning.
The 48-year-old man was in the lounge room of his Leamington Road home with a friend about 5am when they heard noises coming from the rear sliding door.
The man was then approached by two males, wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, before he was struck with a tyre lever.
The 48-year-old managed to chase the attackers out of his home.
Lake Illawarra police established a crime scene at the home.
The man was taken to Shellharbour Hospital where he received sutures for injuries to his arm and scalp.
Detectives are investigating the attack.
