Three young singer-songwriters have come together to write a song for the Southern Stars show Ignite, aimed at inspiring their audience about the positive influence of young people.

The result is a song titled Ignite, due to be released on iTunes in the coming weeks, with a chorus that includes the lyrics “We are a generation on fire. We never stop reaching for the sky.”
The songwriters are Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts Yr 8 student Shalani Thomas, Nowra High School Yr 10 student Aden Spencer and Newtown Performing Arts High School Yr 10 student Gus Noakes.
“We were chosen because we had songwriting experience,” Shalani said. “We all wrote our own song, then came together, sang our songs to each other, pulled elements out of each song and wrote a new chorus.”
While Shalani, 13 normally writes country pop songs, Gus, 16 is classically trained with an interest in musical theatre. He said the trio combined their various musical styles to come up with their original pop rock style song. “We all come from different genres so it combines them and you can hear influences of each in the song,” Gus said
Aden, 16 who is into funk and metal said he was excited about performing the original song to such a large audience. “None of us have performed an original song in front of an audience this big before,” Aden said. “It will be good to do it together.”
